What are we eating?

The recipe was one that was given to me, but I tried it and it turned out great.


1 cup chopped walnuts
¼ cup confectioners’ sugar
¼ cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

20 Phyllo (fillo) cups. Use the ones by Athens foods. They are better than the ones you find at Kroger. You can find the at most Randall’s.

Preheat oven to 375. This gets the oven good and hot to start out with.

Combine in a bowl, walnuts, confectioners’ sugar and butter. Then fill the phyllo cups. After placing the baklava in the oven turn oven down to 350 and bake for 12 to 13 minutes. While the baklava is baking, in a separate bowl, combine corn syrup, honey and lemon juice.

After the baklava comes out of the oven, while it’s still very hot, slop on the honey mixture using a basting/pastry brush. The honey stuff will soak right in.

Note – There are 15 phyllo cups to a package, so here’s how I decide how much filling to make:
